How to choose an audio interface – what to look for?

An audio interface is the heart of every recording studio – it handles the conversion of analogue signal to digital and back, and houses the microphone preamps that have a fundamental impact on the character of your recordings. A well-chosen audio interface will bring out the full potential of your microphones and instruments, while a poorly matched one can become a bottleneck for the entire system.

When choosing an audio interface, several key factors are worth considering. The number of inputs and outputs should match your real needs – for vocal recording and electronic music production a 2x2 interface is sufficient, while band sessions require at least 4–8 microphone inputs. The type of connection to your computer – USB, USB-C or Thunderbolt – matters for latency and stability, especially when working with a large number of plugins in real time.

At Wired Tunes you will find audio interfaces from the most respected manufacturers in the industry: Audient, Solid State Logic, RME, Universal Audio, Antelope Audio, Focusrite and Lynx Studio. From compact 2-channel models ideal for home studios to multichannel Thunderbolt interfaces designed for professional studio use.

If you are unsure which model will work best in your setup, visit the Wired Tunes showroom in Warsaw – our team will help you find the right interface for your needs, budget and studio plans.
