Condenser for vocals and acoustic instruments in a reasonably quiet room. Dynamic if your room has noise you can't control, or you're recording loud sources like amps and drums.
Do all microphones need phantom power?
Condensers do — 48V, supplied by any modern interface or mixer. Dynamic and passive ribbon mics don't need it at all.
How many microphones does a home studio actually need?
One good condenser and one good dynamic covers most people's needs for years. Specialize further — a second condenser, a ribbon — only once you know exactly what's missing.
