Solton HD 88

Solton HD 88 is a passive two-way fullrange loudspeaker in a multi-angle 15 mm birch plywood enclosure measuring 250 x 700 x 250 mm — identical in footprint to the active aart T-28 A. Two 8" drivers on 2" voice coils work in a D'Appolito arrangement around a 1.75" voice coil, 1" exit HF compression driver, with a passive 2.0 kHz crossover and PTC protection matching the two sections without any outboard electronics. At 14 kg and 99 dB sensitivity (1 W/1 m), the HD 88 is a flexible tool for both portable PA and permanent installations requiring a slim, discreet cabinet with high output capability.

Dual 8" drivers with 2" voice coils and 2.0 kHz crossover — monitor, frontfill and main in one enclosure

The symmetrical arrangement of two 8" drivers with 2" voice coils minimises vertical lobing at the crossover transition and maintains a coherent wavefront on the listener axis — the same D'Appolito principle as the active aart T-28 A, but without a built-in amplifier or DSP, giving complete freedom in amplifier and processing choices. The passive 2.0 kHz crossover with PTC driver protection requires no external electronics — the HD 88 connects directly to a stereo or mono amplifier channel. The 90° x 60° constant-directivity horn rotates by hand between vertical and horizontal orientation without tools. The multi-angle polyurea-coated enclosure works as a main speaker on a stand, a floor wedge monitor or a compact frontfill at stage-front positions. The dedicated dual-axis wall bracket WM 88 (art. 12538) handles vertical and horizontal wall mounting without adapters. The TU Frame fly bracket (art. 12522) is shared with the aart T-28 A.

Passive architecture — full flexibility in amplifier and processor choice

The 8 Ω nominal impedance and two NL4 connectors (pins 1+/1-) support daisy-chaining multiple HD 88 cabinets from one amplifier channel, or bi-amp operation with an external DSP or analogue processor. Recommended system components: DP 1800 and DX 43 amplifiers, DSP 206 N controller, HD 181 Sub subwoofer. The transport cover art. 12629 fits the same enclosure as the aart T-28 A.
