The UT Twin87 features a custom large-core output transformer made in the USA and a proprietary dual 34 mm capsule with 24-karat gold-sputtered diaphragms. Its circuitry physically switches between two distinct circuit topologies modeled on the “golden era” 87 schematics — not through digital modeling, but via real analog design differences. This ensures true tonal authenticity whether in Vintage or Modern mode.
In Vintage mode, the capsule is polarized directly by the phantom power supply, just like in the earliest U87 models, resulting in a smoother, warmer tone. In Modern mode, the capsule is polarized at a higher voltage using a FET-based circuit, delivering a hotter signal and a slightly brighter, more detailed response. With three selectable polar patterns (cardioid, omni, and figure-eight) and robust nickel-plated brass construction, the UT Twin87 stands as a powerful and elegant studio tool for vocals, instruments, and broadcast work.
