Thermionic Culture Culture Vulture is a two-channel valve distortion unit in a 19 inch rackmount case. Each channel has Drive and Bias controls, a distortion type switch, a low-pass filter (off, 9 kHz, 6 kHz), an Over Drive switch, an Output Level control and a tube current meter in mA, while the bypass is shared. A color you cannot add with an EQ
An equalizer only moves bands that are already there, while saturation adds components that were not in the signal. The Culture Vulture passes the signal through a 6AS6-type valve in three modes: T (triode), P1 and P2, the no-holds-barred setting. Bias and Drive set how much distortion and of what character the material gets, and the distortion range runs from 0.2% to 99.5%. The 12 dB/octave low-pass filter removes excess top after the distortion.
Inputs and levels
Each channel has two inputs (the front DI cuts out the rear LINE) and two outputs, line and low level, on standard 6.3 mm jacks wired stereo unbalanced. Maximum clean gain is 35 dB, overdriven more than 60 dB, the maximum output level is +17 dBV, and noise is better than 75 dB below the maximum output level at typical settings.
