The SPL Iron v2 Black
The SPL Iron v2 Black is a legendary tube compressor in a modern edition.
The SPL Iron v2 Black from SPL combines the sound of legendary vintage tube compressors with the advantages of innovative 120V technology. The result is smooth, melodic, musical compression, inspired by compressors from the radio era, but with modern flexibility and adaptation to the needs of mastering studios.
The key principle of the IRON is based on the management of the cutoff of parallel connected tubes with different slope characteristics. Depending on the input signal amplitude, one or the other tube takes over the limiting/compression function. This achieves an incredibly balanced and musical sound with very precise and flexible parameter adjustment.
Input and output level settings in 2 dB steps in the range of ±12 dB allow for precise management of the compression ratio and adjustment of the overall signal level. Attack and recovery are adjustable in 6 steps from fast to slow values, allowing for perfect adaptation to the musical material. The compression threshold has 41 values for more precise adjustment.
The possibilities of shaping the compression characteristic are no less flexible. Choosing from 6 types of rectifier diodes (Germanium, silicon, LED) allows you to significantly influence the "character" of the compression. Additionally, 4 filter presets are available for selective frequency compression.
The mode of combining channels with a common control signal ensures a coherent stereo sound. Automatic bypass allows for an objective evaluation of the processing effect.
After the compressor path, the signal can be additionally enriched with AirBass or Tape Roll-Off filters to optimize its frequency response.
Thanks to its unique tube design and an incredible set of precise adjustment possibilities, the SPL Iron v2 Black offers extremely smooth, musical and expressive high-quality compression, ideally suited for mastering tasks and final sound processing. This is a solution that must be found in professional mastering studios.
