The Elephant is a sealed-enclosure subwoofer, deliberately built without a bass-reflex port, driven by a built-in 2x500W Class D amplifier running in a bridged configuration. A 20–300 Hz frequency response, an f3 of 41.7 Hz, and a peak SPL of 110.5 dB at 1 meter give a real, measurable bass foundation for critical work. A user-controllable analog crossover (30–300 Hz, second-order filter) with full 0–360° phase control allows precise tuning to any nearfield monitor pair, and XLR/RCA inputs with pass-through outputs make it easy to chain multiple units.
A sealed enclosure as a solution to uncontrolled bass
A common problem with ported subwoofers in critical listening: the port improves efficiency but introduces its own resonance and extends low-frequency decay, making it harder to judge a mix's true bass envelope. The Elephant sidesteps this with an airtight, sealed enclosure, giving faster transient response and more precise differentiation between individual bass notes — at some cost to output efficiency, but with a cleaner, more trustworthy low-end picture in return.
Full phase control as an integration tool for existing monitors
Adding a subwoofer to an already-tuned nearfield monitor pair often results in a dip or hump in the crossover region when the main speaker's and subwoofer's phase aren't aligned. The Elephant addresses this with full 0–360° phase adjustment, combined with a tunable crossover frequency, letting the sub be matched to any monitor model — from this manufacturer or elsewhere — without accepting a compromised transition between bands.
