sE Electronics sE8 Supercardioid Pair is two sE8 pencil condensers with supercardioid capsules, sold as a pair with a stereo mounting bar and a flight case. A tight pattern in a stereo layout lets you record a wide scene with less pickup from neighbouring sources.

A stereo image without matching mics by ear

The biggest problem in stereo recording is two microphones that do not hear the same: the image wanders and the centre smears when you make adjustments. sE selects the capsules for a pair from hundreds of individual units so they have virtually identical sensitivity and the highest possible correlation across the whole frequency range. The supercardioid pattern also limits pickup from the sides, which helps on overheads, a choir or a band in one room.

A ready kit for stage and studio

The pair comes with a precision stereo bar, two mic clips, two protective windscreens and a robust metal flight case. The bar fixes the spacing between the microphones, so you can repeat the same setup on the next session. Each microphone has a 10/20 dB pad and an 80/160 Hz low-cut filter, and max SPL reaches 159 dB with the 20 dB pad, so the pair also copes with cymbals and loud instruments. The same case and bar make it easy to move the setup between studio, rehearsal room and stage.
