sE Electronics sE8 Supercardioid is a small-diaphragm pencil condenser with a hand-crafted 1/2 inch capsule and a tight supercardioid pattern. It is the sE8 for jobs where isolation matters: a snare next to a hi-hat, an acoustic guitar on stage, several instruments in one room.

Less bleed, same sE8 sound

sE describes the sE8 Supercardioid as the same condenser performance as the sE8 with a tighter pickup pattern. The hand-crafted, individually tuned capsule with an ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm gives fast transients and natural sound without hype. In practice you aim the pattern's null points at the bleed source, such as the hi-hat when miking a snare or a stage monitor, and leave more room for the instrument you actually want.

Headroom and filters on the body

Two switches on the microphone cover the usual trouble with a source close to the capsule: a 10 or 20 dB pad and an 80 or 160 Hz low-cut filter (6 dB/oct.). Max SPL reaches 139 dB with the pad off and 159 dB with the 20 dB pad (0.5% THD at 1 kHz), and equivalent noise is 13 dB. The sE8 body also accepts cardioid and omni capsules, so one microphone can change its pattern with the job. On acoustic guitar or piano the tight pattern helps you place the microphone close for detail without letting the rest of the room in.
