Phoenix Audio Scion is a sixteen channel analogue summing mixer with four stereo busses, the newest design in the Nicerizer line. Discrete transformerless Class-A input stages feed a DSOP-2 output stage with custom-wound DB694 transformers.
Four stereo busses, four characters
An ordinary summing mixer gives you one sound, and it either suits the material or it does not. The Scion sends the same mix to four independent stereo outputs: Color, Clean, Mix and Super Iron, each with a different degree of transformer saturation. You record all four at once to separate tracks and choose later at the monitors, instead of repatching and running the pass again. On top of that, a Drive button on each channel decides individually which tracks get saturation and which stay clean.
Expansion to thirty-two channels
Sixteen channels arrive on two balanced D-sub connectors that accept balanced and unbalanced signals alike with no loss of level. When a session outgrows one unit, the bus linking option ties two Scions into a thirty-two channel system working across a common sum. Every channel has its own detented pan control, the stereo width control runs from mono to an image 25 percent wider, and insert points on the busses take a mastering compressor.
