Neumann USM 69 i is a premium stereo condenser microphone with continuously switchable polar patterns, designed for studio stereo recording in MS or XY configurations. It features two completely independent dual-diaphragm capsules, with the upper capsule capable of rotating up to 270° relative to the lower one. Both capsules share identical acoustic and electrical characteristics, ensuring precise and balanced stereo imaging.
The USM 69 i consists of two independent amplifier sections and a dual-capsule head. Each amplifier operates separately with an extremely low self-noise level, providing clean and transparent audio performance. The membranes are made of gold-sputtered polyester film for long-term stability and consistency. The dual outputs allow the microphone to be used either for true stereo recording or as two independent mono channels with different polar patterns.
Each capsule offers five selectable polar patterns — omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-8 — chosen via separate rotary switches on the microphone body. The USM 69 i operates with standard 48V phantom power and requires no external control units. Thanks to its high output level and very low self-noise, the microphone captures both distant and loud sound sources with precision. Built-in low-frequency filters suppress handling noise and structural vibrations, ensuring stable and distortion-free performance even in challenging recording environments.
The Neumann USM 69 i stands out as a versatile, high-precision stereo tool for professional recording engineers, offering excellent mono compatibility and outstanding imaging for orchestral, acoustic, and broadcast applications.
