Neumann KM 184 is a reference-class small-diaphragm condenser microphone, widely regarded as one of the most accurate and popular microphones in Neumann’s lineup. It delivers a clear, natural tone with exceptional transient response, making it a benchmark for studio and live recordings of acoustic instruments, percussion, and orchestral ensembles.

The KM 184 employs a pressure-gradient transducer with a cardioid pickup pattern, optimized for consistent off-axis response and reduced coloration. Its low self-noise (13 dB-A) and high SPL handling (up to 138 dB) make it equally suited for subtle acoustic textures and dynamic sources such as drums or brass. Thanks to Neumann’s modular engineering, the KM 184 can be paired with other Neumann capsules or the KM D digital output stage for direct A/D conversion.
