Mercury EQP2 MKII is a dual tube program equalizer in a 3U chassis: two independent mono paths in Pultec EQP-1A topology, with transformer balancing on input and output. This is the version for people working on a stereo bus rather than single tracks.

An equalizer that adds something even when you boost nothing

A Pultec works differently from an EQ in a DAW: the filters are passive, so they only subtract, and the lost level is made up by a tube gain stage. It is that stage, not the curve, that adds the characteristic density — which is why the unit changes the sound even with the controls set flat.

Two paths matched for bus work

On a stereo bus two separate mono equalizers always differ at least slightly, and every difference between channels shifts the stereo image. A dual-mono build in one chassis solves that at the source. Input and output transformers break ground loops and add their own audible layer — on a full mix that is not a detail.
