Mackie MR824 – a bi-amplified active studio monitor with an 8" polypropylene woofer, 1" silk-dome tweeter, 85 W Class A/B amplification and a frequency response reaching down to 35 Hz. Price is per unit.

The MR824 is built around a single goal: accurate mix translation regardless of genre or source material. The 8" polypropylene woofer and neodymium-driven 1" silk-dome tweeter are matched to a bi-amplified Class A/B system – 55 W for the low end, 30 W for the high end. Maximum SPL from a pair hits 113 dB, which covers medium-sized rooms without dynamic compression. At –3 dB, the low end extends to 38 Hz; at –10 dB it reaches 35 Hz.

Logarithmic waveguide and stable stereo image

The logarithmic waveguide is central to the MR824's design. It minimizes diffraction and reflections to create an ultra-wide sweet spot and consistent stereo imaging across a broader listening area than a standard horn or flat baffle would allow. The 15 mm MDF cabinet with 33 mm front panel and internal acoustic bracing eliminates cabinet resonances that would otherwise color the low-midrange. The rear-ported enclosure is factory-tuned for even bass response without audible port chuffing at typical studio monitoring levels.

Room compensation without an external EQ

Most project studios have predictable acoustic problems: low-end buildup near walls, dull or harsh room character. The Acoustic Space switch addresses bass accumulation with three selectable positions – flat, –2 dB or –4 dB at low frequencies – covering the most common placement scenarios. The High Freq filter applies a boost or cut to the top end to compensate for room brightness or excessive damping. Both controls are independent and require no external processor. Inputs cover balanced XLR and TRS, plus unbalanced RCA for maximum source compatibility.
