LEWITT LCT 640 TS is a large-diaphragm FET studio condenser microphone with dual output (Twin System), five polar patterns, and Perfect Match Technology. It operates in two modes: as a conventional multi-pattern XLR microphone, or in Dual Output Mode where the front and rear diaphragm of the capsule feed two independent signal paths – enabling polar pattern adjustment after the recording and stereo capture with a single microphone.
Dual Output Mode and the POLARIZER Plugin
Dual Output Mode is the LCT 640 TS's defining advantage over standard multi-pattern condensers. Activated via a side-mounted mini-XLR, the front and rear capsule diaphragms feed two independent FET circuits, each requiring its own phantom-powered input. Both channels record simultaneously – the equivalent of capturing the entire session rather than committing to a single point source. In post-production, the free POLARIZER plugin lets you move the effective polar pattern smoothly between omni and figure-8, adjust the contribution of room ambience, and rotate the directionality by 180°, all inside the DAW. A single LCT 640 TS replaces a full Mid-Side setup: point it sideways at the source, record both outputs, and define stereo width in the mix. Both outputs require 48V phantom power independently, as each diaphragm has its own impedance conversion circuit.
Patterns, Controls, and Perfect Match
In single-output mode, five polar patterns (omni, wide cardioid, cardioid, supercardioid, figure-8) are selected via front-panel push-button with no switching noise. A four-position PAD (0, –6, –12, –18 dB) and a three-position low-cut filter (40 Hz at 12 dB/oct, 80 Hz at 12 dB/oct, 160 Hz at 6 dB/oct) handle the rest. Clipping history and automatic attenuation protect against overload on loud sources. Key lock prevents accidental setting changes mid-take. Perfect Match Technology calibrates every unit to identical sensitivity at 1 kHz during manufacturing – any two LCT 640 TS units form a matched stereo pair without selection or compensation. The set includes a shockmount, magnetic pop filter, foam windscreen, TS adapter cable, leatherette pouch, and a hard transport case.
