Korg Modwave MK2 — a 37-key wavetable synthesizer with 60-voice polyphony, continuing the legacy of the legendary 1985 DW-8000. It pairs a deep wavetable engine with analog-sounding filters and the Motion Sequencing 2.0 modulation system, covering sounds from classic analog to complex digital textures.
Over 200 factory wavetables, each with up to 64 component waveforms, combined with 30+ modifiers and 13 morph types, yield more than 230 million sonic combinations. Two wavetable oscillators per program, with an A/B Blend function, can be stacked and run through one of twelve stereo filters — including MS-20 and Polysix emulations — making the Modwave MK2 a rare digital synth with a distinctly analog filtering character.
Importing custom wavetables beyond the factory library
A sound designer limited to a synth's factory sounds loses the ability to build a unique sonic signature. Modwave MK2 imports wavetables in Serum and WaveEdit format, and the free, cross-platform WaveEdit software lets you build custom tables from scratch. A multi-gigabyte built-in PCM library further allows layering wavetables with acoustic samples, something purely wavetable-focused competing synths don't offer.
Expressive live playing through Kaoss Physics
Korg's classic X/Y Kaoss pad gets a physics engine here, simulating gravity, friction, and bounce for a control point on the pad — realistic physical motion translates directly into sound parameter modulation, producing results hard to achieve by hand-drawing automation. Motion Sequencing 2.0, with multiple parallel sequence lanes and over a thousand potential modulation targets per program, lets you build evolving phrases directly from the keyboard, without an external sequencer.
