HUM Audio Devices RS-2 is the world’s first stereo/mid-side ribbon microphone with remote control and built-in high-end discrete Class A microphone preamplifiers. It delivers unmatched depth, detail, and warmth while maintaining the natural and musical tone that defines the ribbon microphone sound.
The RS-2 features two independently rotatable ribbon heads, allowing configuration in both stereo LR (Blumlein) and Mid/Side recording modes. Each head uses a custom 1.8 μm aluminum ribbon driven by powerful magnets, providing outstanding transient response and spatial precision. The microphone integrates two discrete Jensen JE990-based Class A preamps and Lundahl input/output transformers, enabling direct line-level outputs from the microphone to any converter or tape machine.
Unlike traditional ribbon microphones, the RS-2 can operate in both active and passive modes and is controlled via an analog remote controller. The remote provides control over left/right and mid/side levels, polarity inversion, dimming, and M/S encoding/decoding. It also includes a switchable low-cut filter, adjustable Air Boost, and a fully analog signal path for uncompromised sonic integrity.
