Electric & Co EC/SE recreates the 1950s Ampex 350 preamp circuit with a genuine single-ended output stage — a rare choice in modern designs that produces an especially smooth, musical character.
The Single-Ended Stage Other Preamps Skip
6SJ7 and 6F6 metal pentode tubes running single-ended produce a different kind of saturation than typical push-pull designs — more harmonic, less abrupt. Carefully selected input and output transformers build a sweet, expressive tone without harshness in the top end.
70dB of Headroom for Difficult Sources
High gain with input and output pads lets you work with both quiet vocals and loud sources, and the built-in DI input turns the EC/SE into a complete direct-recording station for electric instruments.
The manufacturer describes the EC/SE's character as having "a wonderful response and a sweet tone" — the result of a pentode tube and single-ended topology combination rarely seen today, not just a marketing line.
