Burl Audio B16-BAD8 — an 8-channel ADC card for the B16 Mothership chassis, transformer-coupled through the BX1 transformer in a compact, higher-density form factor. The same card also fits a B80 chassis.
The signal path is fully discrete, class-A, with no feedback and no capacitors in the signal path. Eight channels are brought out through a DB25 connector in Tascam wiring, and conversion supports sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz at 24-bit resolution.
Analog character right at the capture stage
Many engineers recording through budget ADCs get a clean but flat capture, missing the analog character a console or tape once added. The BAD8 addresses this with the BX1 transformer, which stays transparent at moderate signal levels and adds harmonic saturation and a denser tone as drive increases. That lets the engineer decide, right at the capture stage, between digital precision and analog bite.
Precise Pro Tools integration
Patching outboard processors into Pro Tools HD systems makes it easy for delay to fall out of sync between the digital path and an external analog device. The BAD8 addresses this with Avid delay compensation, matching the input to hardware routing, along with a switchable ADC filter that shifts tone from the classic, soft BURL sound to a clearer, more midrange-forward character.
