The OC7 uses the same OCC7 capsule found in the CC8 pencil mic — inspired by the legendary AKG CK1 design, with a 3-micron gold-coated PEN diaphragm — but housed in a rugged, side-address metal body instead of the classic end-address form. A 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency range and a maximum SPL of 154 dB (over 160 dB with the -10 dB pad) give enough headroom for both a delicate acoustic guitar and a hard snare hit. The linear cardioid pattern with clean off-axis response keeps the signal neutral even with bleed from neighboring kit elements.
A side-address body as a solution for tight drum setups
A common problem when miking a snare with an end-address mic: the body's length often collides with a nearby hi-hat or rack tom, forcing positioning compromises. The OC7 addresses this with side-address geometry — the mic's stalk can sit parallel to the drum head, with the basket itself rotating 220° toward the chosen target, allowing precise aim without physically colliding with neighboring gear.
Angle adjustment without moving the stand
A small angle correction on a standard clip usually means loosening the whole stand clamp, easily knocking other mic positions out of place in a tightly packed kit. The Swivel Joint mechanism suspends the mic basket in a movable joint, letting the angle be fine-tuned with one hand — useful both for quick repositioning on toms between songs and for precise aiming at a kick drum's port.
