ARTURIA MiniFreak Vocoder Edition

Arturia MiniFreak Vocoder Edition is a special white-and-orange version of the six-voice hybrid synthesizer, supplied with a detachable 30 cm gooseneck microphone and an integrated 16-band vocoder. It combines voice processing with two digital sound engines, polyphonic analog filters, advanced modulation, sequencing, stereo effects, sample playback, and granular synthesis.

MiniFreak 5.0 adds custom sample and wavetable import to the Vocoder Edition. Vocals, spoken phrases, field recordings, percussion, instrument recordings, and other personal material can be imported through MiniFreak V, transferred to the hardware, and combined with granular engines, wavetable synthesis, analog filtering, and vocoder processing.

16-band vocoder with an included microphone

The included gooseneck microphone connects directly to the instrument, making it possible to create classic robotic vocals, synthetic choirs, spectral pads, and rhythmic vocal textures without an additional microphone stand. External instruments, drum machines, and other sound sources can also be connected through the audio input and processed by the vocoder.

Ext In Vocoder processes a microphone or external audio signal, while Self Vocoder applies spectral vocoding directly to MiniFreak’s internal synth engines. Clean, Vintage, Narrow, and Gated characters provide four distinct starting points, from smooth electronic vocals to resonant and rhythmically chopped textures.

Custom samples and granular processing

WAV, AIFF, and FLAC files can be imported through MiniFreak V. Samples are converted to 12-bit / 32 kHz, with a maximum duration of six seconds per sample, and transferred to the hardware. MiniFreak’s sample and granular engines can loop, freeze, scan, slice, and transform this material into playable instruments, vocal textures, percussion, drones, and experimental effects.

Custom wavetables

Users can import mono wavetables, including compatible tables from Arturia Pigments libraries. MiniFreak converts them to a 24-bit, 512-point format for scanning and modulation in the Wavetable engine. Wavetable sounds can then be combined with samples, analog filters, stereo effects, and vocoder processing.

Hybrid sound design beyond vocals

The Vocoder Edition retains the complete MiniFreak synthesis architecture. Two digital engines provide 31 oscillator modes covering virtual analog, FM, additive, wavetable, sample-based, granular, and physical-modeling synthesis. Engine 2 can generate sound independently or process Engine 1, while polyphonic analog filters add warmth, resonance, and self-oscillation.
