Arturia BeatStep — a compact MIDI controller with pads and a 16-step CV/Gate sequencer, combining a dynamic drum controller with a simple analog-style sequencer for driving both hardware synths and software instruments.

16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads work well both for finger drumming and for triggering samples or virtual instrument notes. The built-in 16-step sequencer programs pitch for each step directly from assigned rotary encoders, with automatic quantization to a chromatic scale or one of the preset scales — removing the risk of out-of-tune notes typical of older potentiometer-based sequencers.

Driving analog gear without a computer in the loop

A musician working with a small modular or analog synth needs a simple sequence source that doesn't require booting a DAW for every session. Two 3.5mm outputs — 1V/octave CV and gate — let BeatStep function as a standalone sequencer driving any Oct/Volt-compatible synth, alongside a MIDI output for digital gear.

One controller for multiple setups without reprogramming

16 preset configurations let you keep separate encoder and pad mappings for a DAW, a DJ app, or a specific synth, switched instantly without reassigning parameters each time. Controller mode and sequencer mode toggle with a single button, cutting the time between programming a sequence and playing it live.
