Dead-Hang Without Improvisation
Improvised mic suspension on lighting clamps or purpose-wound cable loops is vibration-prone and geometrically unreliable. The LMH provides a dedicated mounting point with a 5/8"-27 thread — the same standard across all AEA SMP sliders, couplers, and adapters — meaning an SMP-S slider with a microphone, an AEA-CP coupler with a full stereo bar, or any standard microphone clip can be attached directly below it. Two zip ties securing the LMH body to the microphone cable is the standard technique used by orchestral and theatre recording engineers, and AEA designed the LMH specifically for this attachment method.
Integration with SMP and Decca Tree Systems
The LMH is particularly useful in combination with Decca Tree and SMP array configurations where the entire rig must hang above the stage without a stand. The 5/8"-27 thread on the LMH accepts an AEA-CP coupler directly, allowing a full 1-meter or 2-meter SMP bar to be suspended over an orchestra in dead-hang without any additional adapters. The 6" variant provides extra clearance for routing the breakout cable beneath the bar, which matters practically in three-microphone Decca Tree setups where cable management at the suspension point is otherwise constrained.
