Steven Slate Audio VSX Modeling Headphones – Platinum Edition is a closed-back studio headphone system combining the same beryllium hybrid driver hardware as the Essentials Edition with the complete VSX software catalog — every studio, room and listening environment currently available, plus lifetime free upgrades to all new spaces added by Steven Slate Audio going forward. The headphone hardware is identical across both editions: a sonically neutral, linear closed-back platform precisely tuned to serve as the blank canvas for the Binaural Perception Modeling algorithms developed by Scaeva Technologies.
Beryllium driver and APS — the hardware that makes modeling work
The beryllium-coated diaphragm is lighter and stiffer than standard Mylar, keeping THD below 1% and maintaining fast transient response across the full 10 Hz to 20 kHz range. Final impedance after the onboard hi-fi analog correction circuit measures 37.6 Ω — sufficient to run from an audio interface headphone output or a laptop jack without a dedicated amp. The patented APS (Acoustically Ported Subsonics) system harnesses internal air pressure to extend accurate sub-bass reproduction below the typical floor of closed-back headphones: low frequencies behave as a hybrid between closed and semi-open, while mid and high frequencies remain fully isolated. The correction circuit linearises the upper midrange response before the signal reaches the plugin, ensuring a consistent neutral starting point regardless of which room model is loaded.
