FAQ
Why not just use my interface's built-in converters?
For most projects, you don't need to. A dedicated converter earns its place when you need more channels than your interface offers, or have to bridge two formats — like ADAT and Dante — that don't talk to each other directly.
Does a better converter really sound different?
Within reason, yes, mostly in noise floor and how it behaves near clipping — but the gap between a good interface's built-in converters and a dedicated unit is smaller than marketing suggests. Channel count and format-bridging are usually the real reason to buy one.
What's the difference between a converter and a format bridge?
A converter changes analog to digital or back. A format bridge moves already-digital audio between protocols — ADAT to Dante, for example — without touching the analog domain at all.
