Do I need to treat the whole room, or just parts of it?

Just parts, usually — first-reflection points on the side walls and ceiling, plus the corners for bass buildup. Full-room treatment is for dedicated studios, not most home setups.

Foam or fiberglass panels?

Fiberglass-core panels like Mega Acoustic's absorb more effectively per centimeter of thickness, especially lower in the spectrum, than thin foam tiles — worth the difference for serious mixing work.

Can an active bass trap replace passive corner treatment?

It solves a different part of the problem — an active trap like the PSI Audio AVAA targets specific room modes electronically without the depth passive bass trapping needs, which is a real advantage in small rooms. Most serious rooms still benefit from some passive treatment too.
