Phoenix Audio PIVOT-TC/500 is a 500 series module combining a discrete Class-A line buffer, a discrete DI and a pivot point equaliser. The DSOP-2 output stage with its custom-wound transformer adds character no digital equaliser will give you.

Equalisation as a see-saw, on one knob

An ordinary equaliser asks you to set frequency, Q and gain before you can hear whether you were heading the right way. The pivot works differently: you choose a pivot point from 160 Hz, 800 Hz and 1.6 kHz, then tilt the spectrum toward dark or bright with a single control. Lift the top and the bottom drops by the same proportion, and the other way round, so loudness stays put and you are not fooling yourself with level. On a guitar, a synth or a mix bus, dialling in a tone takes seconds.

A DI that needs no preamp in front of it

The instrument input runs at 10 megohms and is fully discrete Class-A, so a guitar or synth plugs straight into the module with no intermediate preamp. A through socket passes the signal on to an amplifier when you want to track the DI line and a microphone on the cabinet at the same time. Output level sits on its own control, and ten point LED metering shows how much headroom is left before the +26 dBu ceiling.
