M-Audio BX3 BT is a pair of compact active monitors with 3.5 inch Black Kevlar woofers and 1 inch natural silk dome tweeters, plus Bluetooth for wireless playback from a phone, tablet or computer. Output is 120 W peak (2 x 25 W RMS), and the set is built for the desktop: music production in a DAW, streaming, podcasting and watching video. Listen to them in our Warsaw showroom.
Monitors that fit on a desk
In a small room, large monitors block the screen and spoil the listening with reflections. Each BX3 cabinet measures 140 x 145 x 208 mm and weighs 3.35 kg, and only one of the two is active: the second connects to it with a 3.5 mm cable and needs no power of its own. The Active Speaker Position switch sets which side carries the volume control. Inputs are two 6.35 mm TRS jacks, an RCA pair and a 3.5 mm mini jack, and the front panel adds an AUX input and a headphone output.
Tuned for the desk and the room
The low-resonance MDF cabinet, enhanced rear ports and a tweeter waveguide optimized for close listening give a stable stereo image at the computer. High-EQ and Low-EQ controls let you match the sound to the desktop and the wall behind the monitors. The response starts at 80 Hz, so for work on the low end you will want a subwoofer or a headphone check.
The BX3 BT also receives audio over Bluetooth with a range of up to 30.5 m. There is no cable to run to your phone: you pair the device and play references, a playlist or a track from an app straight through the monitors.
