AURA and MUTE by Distance – What They Actually Solve
The classic problem with condenser microphones in tracking sessions: the vocalist moves in, pulls back during loud phrases, tilts off-axis to check lyrics – and every shift means proximity effect changes, level inconsistencies, and extra editing time. AURA addresses this at the microphone level. Two proximity sensors built into the headbasket continuously measure the distance to the sound source and adapt output level and tonal profile in real time. The effective working range expands from a typical 6–12" to a far more forgiving 2–40". Everything runs on 48V phantom power – no battery, no external processing, no latency introduced by a computer.
MUTE by Distance is a separate, independent feature: the RAY applies 70 dB of signal attenuation automatically when the user moves beyond a user-defined distance threshold. The threshold is set directly on the mic with a single button press – no menu, no app. RAY is also the first professional XLR microphone with a dedicated physical mute button on the body, with a red LED indicator providing clear visual confirmation of mute status. Both buttons can be locked simultaneously (hold both for a few seconds) to prevent accidental activation during live streams or recordings.

The gold-sputtered 3-micron PET cardioid capsule delivers 8 dB(A) self-noise and handles up to 131 dBSPL. With AURA disabled, the RAY performs as a straightforward large-diaphragm condenser comparable to LEWITT's LCT 440 PURE – wide, linear frequency response, suitable for vocals and instruments alike. Gold-plated 3-pin XLR connector, 7.2 mA current draw – compatible with any phantom-powered interface or preamp.
