Fostex TH900mk2LE is the Limited Edition variant of Fostex's flagship closed-back dynamic headphone TH900mk2, available from March 2026. The technical foundation is unchanged from the TH900mk2: the 50mm BioDyna driver with 1.5 Tesla neodymium repulsion magnet circuit, Japanese ornamental cherry birch housing with Urushi lacquer applied by Sakamoto craftsmen, and low-resilience synthetic leather earpads. The distinction between the TH900mk2 and the LE version is solely in the accessory package: the LE omits the headphone stand included as standard with the TH900mk2 — allowing a lower retail positioning while delivering the identical acoustic platform and craftsmanship. The closed-back architecture of the TH900mk2LE differentiates it from the sibling TH909LE in acoustic chamber design and overall sonic character.
Closed chamber, 1.5 T repulsion magnet and BioDyna: controlled bass and flagship dynamics
The 50mm BioDyna driver uses a repulsion magnet circuit at 1.5 Tesla magnetic flux density — a design responsible for exceptionally precise diaphragm control at high amplitudes, which combined with the closed acoustic chamber produces strong, deep bass at low distortion. The bio-cellulose and composite fiber diaphragm delivers low specific gravity, high Young's modulus, high internal loss, and a free-edge design for linear large-amplitude reproduction in the low midrange. The closed chamber builds acoustic pressure on the internal side of the earcup; combined with the precise acoustic path tuning of the TH900mk2, this yields the model's characteristic sound profile — intense, fast bass, an engaged midrange, and an extended high-frequency range without smearing — alongside passive environmental isolation. Frequency response: 5–45,000 Hz, impedance: 25 Ω, sensitivity: 100 dB/mW, maximum input: 1,800 mW. Weight: approx. 385 g.
Sakamoto Urushi lacquer in bordeaux and LE accessory set without stand
The Japanese ornamental cherry birch housing is finished in Urushi lacquer in bordeaux — a craft lacquer produced exclusively by the Sakamoto Otosho Shoten factory, established in 1900, applying traditional Japanese lacquering techniques to industrial production. The bordeaux Urushi gives each housing a deep, multi-layered color with a unique grain character visible through the lacquer finish. Low-resilience urethane earpads covered in high-grade synthetic leather — the same type as in the TH909LE, geometrically adapted to the closed chamber. Included cable: 3 m, 7N OFC, 6.3mm plug, 2-pin connector with rhodium-plated contacts. Balanced connection via the optional XLR cable (ET-H3.0N7BL). The LE version does not include the headphone stand — in all other aspects of build quality and acoustics it is identical to the TH900mk2. Available from March 2026.
