Studiologic is the instrument brand of FATAR, the Italian keybed manufacturer whose actions sit inside keyboards from a long list of other companies. That is the whole point of the brand: with a Studiologic you are buying the keybed directly from the people who build it, without a badge in between. The SL line is built around two actions — the TP/110 hammer action in the SL73 and SL88 mk2, and the TP/400 Wood with real wooden keys in the SL88 GT mk2.
Who these keyboards are for
An SL is a controller, not a synthesizer: it makes no sound of its own and exists to play something else. It fits if you:
- play piano parts properly and cannot work on a synth-action keyboard, however good the sounds are;
- drive software instruments from a DAW and want the feel of an acoustic instrument in front of you;
- run hardware alongside a computer — every SL mk2 has 5-pin MIDI sockets, so it talks to synths that never heard of USB.
It is not the right first purchase if you mostly programme beats or need onboard sounds. A controller with no sound engine is a frequent and expensive misunderstanding, and we would rather you knew before the box arrives.
The SL range, line by line
- SL73 mk2 — 73 keys with the TP/110 action, for desks where 88 keys simply will not fit.
- SL88 mk2 — the same TP/110 action across a full 88 keys. The default choice in the line.
- SL88 GT mk2 — the TP/400 Wood action with wooden keys, the top of the range.
- SL88 Grand — the earlier generation, graded hammer action with wooden keys and an Ivory Feel surface.
The mk2 generation brought USB-C in place of USB-B, MIDI 2.0 compatibility, a 2.8-inch colour display, four rotary encoders with colour-coded LED rings, and an integrated stereo and headphone output — so the keyboard can be the only box on the desk.

What to choose for the job in front of you
- You want one controller and no regrets — SL88 mk2. Full 88 keys on the TP/110 action, and the money you save goes into an interface or monitors.
- You play piano repertoire, not just parts — SL88 GT mk2. The TP/400 Wood action is the reason to spend the difference, and it is a difference you feel in the first minute.
- Your desk is too shallow for 88 keys — SL73 mk2. Same action, five fewer octaves of problem.
- You want wooden keys for less — SL88 Grand from the earlier generation, without the mk2 display and USB-C.
- You do not mind an open box — SL88 GT mk2 B-Stock saves 49 EUR against the new one and carries the same warranty. One unit only.

Brand history
FATAR was founded in 1956 in Recanati, Italy, by Lino Ragni. The name is an abbreviation of Fabbrica Tastiere Ragni, the Ragni Keyboard Factory. The company sits in the region Italians call the Musical Instruments Valley, and it has spent most of its history as a supplier: if you have played a hammer-action keyboard from almost any brand, there is a fair chance a FATAR action was under your fingers.
Studiologic is the arm of that business which sells finished instruments under its own name. FATAR has continued to develop the actions themselves, including polyphonic aftertouch keybeds — the TP/8S PAFT in 2020 and the TP/90 PAFT in 2022.
