KRK Systems is an American studio monitor manufacturer whose origin story is as straightforward as they come — Keith R. Klawitter, a film mix engineer working in Huntington Beach, California, grew frustrated with the quality of available monitors in the mid-1980s and started building his own in his garage. His colleagues were impressed enough that what began as a personal solution eventually became a commercial brand, named after its founder's initials.
From those garage beginnings KRK grew into one of the most recognizable names in studio monitoring worldwide, and for good reason. The brand was among the first to develop active studio monitors with optimized built-in amplifiers, giving engineers a more coherent, purpose-built listening system at a time when passive monitors and separate amplifiers were the norm. The iconic yellow Kevlar cone — the visual signature of the ROKIT series — became one of the most widely recognized sights in recording studios globally, from professional control rooms to bedroom setups, and has remained a constant across multiple generations of the product.
The current lineup spans several tiers built for different studio contexts. The ROKIT series, now in its fifth generation, remains the brand's most popular line and is consistently one of the best-selling studio monitors in the world — valued for its forward midrange presentation that makes translation across playback systems easier to assess. The V Series positions itself higher, designed in close collaboration with professional engineers for more critical listening environments, with Class D amplification, Kevlar drivers, and 49 DSP-driven EQ presets for acoustic compensation. The Classic and Kreate series extend KRK's reach toward entry-level producers and content creators without abandoning the core sonic identity the brand has built over nearly four decades.
At Wired Tunes, we carry KRK monitors for producers and engineers at every stage of their journey — from a first home studio setup to a well-equipped mixing room that demands a reliable, time-tested reference.
