Solton A 218

Solton A 218 Sub is a dual 18-inch hybrid subwoofer built as the low-frequency section for bi-amped or tri-amped systems used in touring and installed applications. Two long-excursion neodymium drivers with 4-inch voice coils handle 2000 W continuous and 6000 W peak, reaching a maximum peak SPL of 142 dB at one meter. An 18 mm birch plywood enclosure and a low-distortion port design keep the low end tight and controlled, avoiding the boxy character common in cheaper subwoofer builds.

Low-End Section for Multi-Way Systems

The subwoofer must be electronically crossed over using a Solton DSP 206 N or an equivalent digital controller, which allows precise crossover point placement and driver protection through DSP limiting rather than a passive crossover network. A 35-200 Hz response within 3 dB and an operating range extending down to 30 Hz at -10 dB give a clean handoff to the mid-high section without band overlap or masking. A 4 ohm nominal impedance simplifies amplifier selection when running several cabinets on a single channel.

Built for Life on the Road

Four integrated side handles and the built-in mounting for a 100 mm wheel set speed up loading and unloading on frequent tours, even though the cabinet itself weighs 64 kg. Two M20 mounting sockets let a distance pole with a mid-high cabinet be mounted directly on top, building a complete point-source system without a separate stand. A steel grille backed with acoustically transparent foam protects the drivers from mechanical damage during transport and on stage, and rear-panel NL4 connectors make it fast to link additional cabinets into the system.
