Shure SM58-LCE is a cardioid dynamic vocal microphone that has been the default stage and studio tool for decades. The LCE variant ships without an on/off switch — one fewer failure point during a live set, and the mic is always live the moment it hits the stand.

Feedback rejection and source isolation

The cardioid pickup pattern aggressively rejects off-axis sound from the sides and rear of the capsule, directly increasing gain-before-feedback headroom. On dense monitor-heavy stages where multiple sources compete for space, that directional selectivity lets you push the vocal in the mix without constantly chasing feedback loops. The pneumatic shock-mount system decouples the capsule from mechanical vibrations transmitted through the stand or the vocalist's grip — what reaches the console is signal, not floor rumble.

A frequency curve built for vocals, not measurements

The SM58's response is deliberately non-linear. The presence rise between 2 kHz and 5 kHz pulls vocal intelligibility forward and cuts through a dense mix without reaching for the console's EQ. Simultaneously, the low-frequency rolloff keeps the proximity effect in check — critical when vocalists work the mic close, as the bass buildup at short distances can quickly cloud the low-mid register. The integrated spherical wind and pop filter handles plosives and breath noise without requiring an external foam cover on stage.

KEY FEATURES

  • Dynamic moving-coil transducer — handles high SPL, no phantom power required
  • Cardioid polar pattern with effective rejection of off-axis sources
