sE Electronics V7 VE Vintage Edition is a dynamic vocal microphone with the supercardioid DMC7 capsule, in a limited finish combining a hammered green body with a polished chrome grille. The capsule and electronics are identical to the standard V7.
Headroom before feedback on a small stage
A supercardioid pattern has a narrower acceptance angle at the front and pronounced nulls at the rear — exactly where a wedge sits on a club stage. In practice that is several decibels more gain before the channel starts ringing, plus less snare and guitar bleeding into the vocal. The aluminium voice coil in the DMC7 capsule is lighter than a conventional copper coil, so the microphone tracks transients faster and the vocal does not turn dull.
Construction that comes back from tour in one piece
The body is all metal, in zinc alloy, and the spring steel grille does not dent after a drop and does not corrode. The bevelled edge around the grille stops the microphone rolling when it is put down on an amp or the stage floor. A patented integrated shock mount decouples the capsule from the body, so handling noise is markedly lower than in comparable microphones — and with a singer holding the mic for an entire set, handling noise is the usual source of trouble in that channel.
