sE Electronics V3 is a cardioid dynamic vocal microphone — the entry-level model in sE Electronics' V series, designed as an all-purpose workhorse for vocals, guitar cabinets, brass, and choirs in both live and studio settings. Compared to the higher-positioned V7, the V3 uses a copper rather than aluminum voice coil and a cardioid rather than supercardioid pattern, which produces a wider acceptance angle and a smoother, more balanced frequency character.
Cardioid pattern and copper voice coil — different priorities from the V7
The V3's cardioid polar pattern accepts a wider angle of sound from the front than a supercardioid — less pronounced Haas-type dropout when vocalists move their head dynamically, and better tonal consistency when miking irregular instrument shapes such as a snare shell, guitar amp grille, or brass bell. The copper voice coil on a neodymium magnet delivers a smooth, natural sound across 50 Hz–16 kHz, with a presence rise above 1 kHz and a natural low-frequency rolloff from approximately 200 Hz — proximity effect management without reaching for a highpass filter on the console. The higher output impedance of 600 Ω (versus 300 Ω on the V7) requires a destination load impedance above 1.5 kΩ for optimal matching, which is a non-issue with any standard audio interface or mixing console. The patented integrated shockmount mechanically decouples the capsule from the housing, reducing stand and handling vibrations before they reach the transducer.Construction and application
The all-zinc-alloy housing carries no plastic components; the spring steel grille is dent-proof and corrosion-resistant, and the beveled grille edge prevents the microphone from rolling off an amp or the floor. The gold-plated XLR connector maintains a reliable connection through extended use. No phantom power is required — the V3 works directly with any microphone input. Included: mic clip, thread adapter, black internal windscreen, carrying pouch.KEY FEATURES
