Kali Audio IN-UNF — a 3-way ultra-nearfield system made up of a bass unit and two coaxial satellites, built for listening from 0.8 m right on the desk, with USB-C, TRS, optical, and mini-jack inputs.
The bass unit houses two horizontally opposed 4.5-inch woofers, the amplifier, and all system electronics, handling everything below 280 Hz summed to mono. The satellites use the same coaxial 4-inch midrange and 1-inch dome module found in the IN-5 and IN-8 monitors, with a passive crossover at 2.8 kHz. Each mid/high channel gets 60 W of continuous power, and the bass unit gets 100 W. Frequency response reaches 39 Hz - 25 kHz (-10 dB), with a 47 Hz - 21 kHz range at ±3 dB, max SPL of 103 dB (peak at 1 m), and THD under 3% in the 80 Hz - 1.7 kHz band.
Reference monitoring without room for a stand pair
A small desk rarely has space for a full pair of nearfield monitors set at the correct distance. The IN-UNF treats the desk itself as an acoustic part of the system — distances between the satellites and bass unit are precisely specified in the included placement guide, and the ball-shaped satellites rest on silicone pucks that let you aim the tweeters directly at your ears. The bass unit can stand vertically to fit beside a monitor, or lie horizontally as a screen riser — thanks to the opposed woofers, it transfers no vibration to the desk or to anything sitting on top of it.
Correction for specific desk constraints
A desk against a wall, in a corner, or squeezed between two walls produces very different reflections than open space, and a typical nearfield monitor has no answer for that. The IN-UNF provides eight DIP switches with presets for these specific desk scenarios, plus LF, MR, and HF trim controls (±2 dB) and an additional +4 dB bass boost. The USB-C input works as a class-compliant audio device with no drivers and no interface required, which matters for audio post or podcast editing straight from a laptop.
