JZ Microphones The Amethyst is a large-diaphragm condenser with a 25 mm Golden Drop capsule, a cardioid pattern and a discrete Class A amplifier. At 350 g and 168 × 63 × 41 mm it is noticeably smaller and lighter than the rest of the range.

A vocal that sits in the mix without EQ

The Amethyst is voiced for a full, warm tone that keeps its air at the top — a Pro Audio reviewer placed it in the situations where a U67 would normally come out. In practice the midrange is dense without the nasal build-up around 800 Hz to 1 kHz, and the top does not need a shelf. Across several vocal sessions a day, the difference comes down to how many EQ bands you have to open on every channel.

A light body that fits where others will not

350 g is a weight even a light boom stand will hold without extra counterweight and without the arm sagging during a take. That matters when miking an acoustic guitar around the twelfth fret, or on piano where the microphone has to come in under the lid at a steep angle. One practical note: the external shock mount is not part of the standard package.
