Grace Design m108 Control Room Output Option is an expansion module (CRO) installed in the option slot of the Grace Design m108 eight-channel preamp with A/D conversion. The card provides a stereo pair of balanced 1/4" TRS outputs designed to connect to monitor speakers, turning the m108 into a complete monitor controller operated from the front panel.
Monitoring on speakers without extra hardware
An engineer working in the field or in a small studio often has no separate monitor controller. The CRO module solves this directly: using the m108's built-in mixer, it provides a self-contained recording and monitoring system on speakers, whether in the control room, at a remote location or on the road. The output level is controlled by the front-panel VOL/MUTE knob, so monitor volume and mute happen in a single move, without reaching for an external attenuator.
Matching different monitoring systems
Active monitors and amplifiers differ in input sensitivity, which with a fixed output level robs you of control over the adjustment range. The CRO module has selectable gain ranges: it ships in Low Gain mode, sufficient for most active monitors, with a typical volume setting in the 60-90 range. When more level is needed, the card can be switched to High Gain mode, matching it to less sensitive monitoring systems.
