Thirteen years after the original H9 launched, Eventide replaces it with a unit built on the same ARM processing core as the H90 and H9000. The Gen 2 inherits the flagship architecture directly – improved converters, faster real-time response, and none of the sonic compromises that typically accompany downsizing to pedal format. It runs one algorithm at a time, same as the original, but now with access to 74+ algorithms covering the full H90 library alongside the complete H9 Max collection. At $599, it positions itself as the most complete single-algorithm Eventide processor available in pedalboard format.
An interface that no longer holds you back
The original H9 was widely acknowledged as having a problematic hardware interface – most users operated it exclusively via the app. Gen 2 addresses that directly: a 2.5-inch display, three assignable Quick Knobs, dedicated algorithm access buttons, and Select, Bank, and Perform modes give you proper hands-on control. HotKnob and HotSwitch macros let you pre-program real-time parameter sweeps and dual-state switching – useful for dramatic live transitions without preset changes. Seamless spillover between presets means effect tails continue naturally when switching, eliminating the hard cuts that create problems in live tracking or recording sessions.
Routing flexibility for stage and studio
Stereo I/O accepts both instrument and line-level signals, making the H9 Gen 2 viable as a console insert, effects loop processor, or pedalboard unit without additional buffering. Wet/Dry and Pre/Post routing options let you dial in parallel processing or place the unit precisely in the signal chain. 5-pin MIDI I/O integrates into existing automation setups, while USB-C and Bluetooth handle connection to the Eventide Control app without adapters. SIFT technology (Spectral Instantaneous Frequency Tracking) powers the polyphonic pitch algorithms – Polyphony, Polyflex, Polysynth, and Prism Shift – delivering clean results on complex harmonic material where older pitch-shifting architectures introduce artefacts.
