Elta Music Selector 8 is a passive eight-to-one audio switch built for the SOLAR 42, SOLAR 42F and SOLAR 50 synthesizers, supplied with a set of sound sources to feed it. It connects to the instrument's sensitive preamp input and lets you change source with a rotary switch instead of replugging mid-performance.
No more swapping plugs in the middle of a set
Working with an instrument that processes external signal usually runs into the same wall: one input and several sources that have to be changed by hand. The Selector 8 collects eight sources at one point and switches between them with a rotary control, so a contact mic, a radio and a synth are all available instantly, including on stage. The design is passive, so it adds no noise and needs no power, and it works in reverse too: one input feeding eight outputs, which turns it into a simple passive router for sending one source to several destinations.
A ready-made kit for working with found sound
The bundle includes three types of contact microphone: a clip-on for instruments and flat surfaces, a suction cup pickup for acoustic guitars and similar bodies, and one housed in an aluminium canister with a magnet for mounting on metal. Alongside those come a pocket AM/FM radio with a Y-cable, which can feed the selector and the instrument's external input at the same time, and the QVJ, an 8-bit pendant that doubles as a small microphone and glitch-style audio visualiser. Connections are 3.5 mm and 6.3 mm, so the set also drops into a normal studio chain outside the SOLAR family.
