Electric & Co EC6 recreates the EC600 amplifier circuit, also known as Stereo 6/Ampex 600 — a classic American tube design prized for a direct, slightly raw character distinct from European preamps of the same era.
American Character Instead of European Smoothness
An EF86 input tube paired with a 12AU7 output tube, combined with Cinemag transformers, produces a more open, forward sound than typical European Neve or Telefunken-style clones — great on drums, guitars, and vocals that need to cut through a mix.
60dB for Everyday Sessions
Mic and line pads plus a DI input provide the flexibility needed in day-to-day tracking — from a quiet vocal to bass or guitar plugged in directly — without losing the circuit's signature character.
This circuit works especially well on drums and electric guitars, where directness of attack matters more than maximum smoothness — a preamp for sounds meant to cut through, not hide in the background.
