cyma forma RND is a compact synthesizer built around a single button. Every press randomises a complete patch: synthesis engines, sound parameters, scale and sequences. It was developed by the Paris-based brand cyma forma together with French producer Bambounou, and is conceived as a source of ideas rather than a conventional sound design tool.
Breaking out of looping habits in sound programming
Anyone who has spent years with synthesizers eventually falls into the same set of moves: the same filter type, the same envelope, the same key. RND inverts that by handing the choice to a random number generator. Eight synthesis engines are available: subtractive, FM, acid, noise, speech, Karplus-Strong, supersaw and additive. Each press layers four of them, each running its own euclidean sequence, in one of twenty scales. What comes out is ready to record or to take apart in the DAW.
Built to sit inside a rig, not beside it
RND is not a toy cut off from the rest of the studio. Over USB-C it sends four separate audio tracks, one per instrument, taken pre-reverb, so each layer can be treated independently in the session. The stereo mix leaves separately on a minijack. MIDI runs both ways across four channels over USB-C and TRS minijack, joined by MIDI clock input and analogue sync in and out. Over four billion possible random seeds means, in practice, that the same patch will not come back by accident.
