Black Lion PBR-TRS
Configurer
Black Lion Audio PBR TRS is a 48-point studio patchbay in 19" / 1U format, loaded with 96 audiophile-grade gold-plated 1/4" TRS jacks — 48 on the front panel, 48 on the rear. Normalization modes (Normal and Half-Normal) are switched via buttons on the rear panel, requiring no soldering and no internal reconfiguration. Black Lion Audio built its reputation on modifying and improving pro audio gear, and the same attention to connection quality that defines their modification work is the engineering foundation of the entire PBR series.
Gold-plated contacts as standard — why it matters in a patchbay
Contact oxidation is the primary failure mode of budget patchbays: as bare copper or nickel-plated contacts age and corrode, contact resistance rises, introducing noise and intermittent signal loss that are difficult to diagnose and time-consuming to fix. Gold does not oxidize. All 96 contact points on the PBR TRS are gold-plated, maintaining low and stable contact resistance regardless of how many insertions the jacks accumulate or how the ambient humidity fluctuates. The reinforced steel chassis and black-anodized aluminum faceplate provide the mechanical durability to match — the jacks are tight and consistent, not the loose, wobbly connectors that plague cheaper alternatives. Front-panel labels are included; custom labels can be printed via PatchCAD or ordered free directly from Black Lion Audio.
Normal and Half-Normal — routing without rewiring
In Normal mode, the top and bottom rows are electrically isolated until a patch cable is inserted, creating a switched connection. Half-Normal maintains a permanent through-connection between the top and bottom rows without a cable — inserting a cable into the bottom jack breaks the normalization and redirects the signal. In practice, this means a preamp output can feed a recorder permanently via the normalized path, while a single patch cable temporarily inserts a compressor into the chain without touching the permanent rear-panel wiring. Mode switches on the rear panel allow each pair to be configured independently, so a single bay can carry both normalized and non-normalized signal paths simultaneously.
