Apollo Twin X DUO with UAD Analog Classics — a 10x6 desktop Thunderbolt audio interface with two Unison mic preamps and a UAD-2 DUO Core processor for real-time plug-in processing, bundled with the Analog Classics collection of compressors, EQs, and preamp emulations.
Elite-Class AD/DA conversion runs at 24-bit/192kHz, and the two XLR/TRS combo inputs plus a 1/4" Hi-Z input use Unison technology, matching impedance and gain structure to the analog hardware being modeled — so the emulated preamp behaves electrically like the original at the point the signal enters, rather than just coloring the sound afterward. The DUO Core processor runs independent of the DAW's buffer, so you can monitor through compression, EQ, and reverb plugins at under 2ms of latency.
Tracking through preamp character without the delay
With a conventional interface, an engineer hears a dry signal while tracking and only decides on preamp character later in the mix — which often changes how a vocalist or guitarist plays. Unison and DUO Core let you hear (and record) the character of an LA-2A, 1176, or UA 610 preamp during tracking itself, without the phase smear typical of software monitoring.
Scaling the system without replacing the interface
The ADAT port adds up to 8 extra input channels (or stereo S/PDIF), and Thunderbolt 3 supports cascading up to four Apollo interfaces and six UAD-2 devices total — an engineer starting with a compact home setup can add inputs and DSP power later without swapping out the central unit.
