SSL (Solid State Logic) is one of the most influential names in audio history — a British manufacturer whose consoles defined the sound of modern recording. Founded in 1969 by Colin Sanders in Oxfordshire, SSL built its reputation through a relentless focus on engineering precision, and by the 1980s its large-format desks had become the standard in the world's top studios, shaping countless records across rock, pop, and beyond.
The heart of SSL's legacy is the console bus compression — that characteristic glue and punch that became so synonymous with a polished, radio-ready sound that engineers began chasing it in every format that followed. The 4000 and 9000 series consoles are among the most celebrated mixing desks ever made, and their influence can be heard on decades of mainstream recordings. SSL's channel strip design — combining EQ, dynamics, and routing in a single, fast-to-use path — set a workflow standard that the entire industry eventually followed.
Today SSL extends that heritage into hardware outboard units, interfaces, and a growing plugin lineup under the SSL 360° ecosystem, making the classic console sound accessible well beyond the physical desk. Their Native plugin collection brings authentic SSL processing to any DAW, while the Fusion and Bus Compressor hardware units remain a go-to for engineers who want that character in the analog domain.
At Wired Tunes, we offer SSL hardware and software solutions for producers and engineers who want to bring one of the most trusted sounds in recording history into their setup — from studio-grade interfaces to the iconic processing that has defined professional mixing for over five decades.
