AEA debuts its first compressor!

During Superbooth 2025, the legendary brand known for top-tier ribbon microphones unveiled its first outboard dynamics processor: the AEA 1029 Stereo VCA Compressor. This is a compact, analog stereo compressor designed for precise, natural compression and perfect synergy with ribbon microphones.

A New Era of Compression from AEA

The AEA 1029 is a fully analog stereo VCA compressor in a half-rack format. It features high-end components, including a custom discrete op-amp by Fred Forssell and a dual THAT 4305 VCA design. The result is a clear, balanced sound ideal for vocals, drum overheads, and more.

Compact Yet Powerful

Despite its compact size, the AEA 1029 delivers advanced functionality: Peak Fast, RMS, and Peak Slow detection modes, continuously variable threshold (-20 to +20 dBu), compression ratio (1:1 to limiting), up to 20 dB of output gain, and a Dry/Wet control for easy parallel compression blending.

The Perfect Match for AEA Microphones

The compressor was built with AEA's TRP and RPQ series preamps in mind but fits seamlessly into any stereo setup — for both recording and mixing. It’s a premium solution for any studio looking to elevate its sound.
