What is a modular synthesizer?

A modular synth isn't one instrument — it's a system you build yourself. Instead of a fixed signal path, you get separate modules — oscillators, filters, envelopes — and you patch them together with cables however you like. Nothing is decided for you. That's the whole appeal, and the whole learning curve, so let's start at the bottom.

Modular vs semi-modular: where to start

New to this? A semi-modular synth is the sane entry point: its modules are already wired internally, so it makes sound out of the box, and you override those connections with patch cables as you learn. A fully modular system is built from scratch — a sound source, something to shape it, something to open and close it — and grows exactly the way you want.

Looking for individual Eurorack modules, cases or power to expand a rack? See our dedicated Eurorack Modules collection.

The modular brands we carry

We carry the instruments worth your time: Make Noise, Moog, Erica Synths, Arturia, Doepfer and Bastl Instruments — from full modular voices to semi-modular synths that are a sane place to begin.

Test a system in our Warsaw showroom

Modular is gear you want to hear and touch before you spend. That's what our showroom at Nowogrodzka 6A/102 in Warsaw is for — patch a live system, hear it, then decide. Swing by or give us a call: +48 573 580 840.

FAQ

What's the difference between a modular and a semi-modular synth?

A semi-modular has fixed internal connections and works out of the box; a fully modular system is built from separate modules you patch yourself.

How much does it cost to start with modular?

A semi-modular synth is the cheapest way in. A first fully modular system — case, power and a handful of modules — costs more; tell us your budget and we'll spec it.

Can I test a synth before buying?

Yes — in the Warsaw showroom, patched live, so you hear it before you pay.
