Coaxial designs such as Genelec 8341A mount the tweeter inside the woofer, aligning the sound source in time and space for a more precise stereo image.

Do I need three-way monitors for a small room?
Usually not — a well-designed two-way covers most nearfield listening distances. Three-way pays off more in larger rooms and at higher monitoring levels.
What does coaxial actually improve?
Time and phase alignment between the tweeter and woofer, which sharpens the stereo image — most noticeable off-axis and in smaller rooms where you're not perfectly centered.
Active monitors or passive with a separate amp?
Active for almost everyone — the amp is matched to the driver at the factory, and there's one less variable to get wrong. Passive is a deliberate choice for engineers who want to select their own amplification.
