A ribbon microphone's thin metal element gives it a naturally smooth high end and a warmth that condenser and dynamic designs rarely match — the classic choice for taming a bright guitar cab or brass instrument without reaching for EQ. Our ribbon range is built almost entirely around AEA, one of the most respected names in the format.
A passive ribbon like AEA R84 has low output and needs a clean, high-gain preamp to shine, but delivers the most classic, unadulterated ribbon character. Active designs such as AEA NUVO Flight add internal electronics for much higher output, working cleanly with a wider range of preamps including budget interfaces.
Want the classic large-ribbon reference sound? AEA R84 is the one most engineers reach for first. Working with preamps that don't have huge clean gain on tap? AEA NUVO Flight solves that with active electronics while keeping the ribbon character.
This category is led by AEA — one of the most respected ribbon microphone makers in the world, with instruments in studios from Los Angeles to London.
The biggest difference between us and a mail-order shop: you can hear the gear before you buy it. Our showroom at Nowogrodzka 6A/102 in Warsaw is there so you can try it on your own material, not a shop demo. Book a visit or just swing by — we'll help without the sales pitch. Call: +48 573 580 840.
Passive ribbons benefit from a preamp with plenty of clean gain and no phantom power accidentally engaged — phantom power can damage some vintage passive ribbons. Active ribbons like the AEA NUVO series are more forgiving.
A naturally smooth high-frequency rolloff and a figure-eight polar pattern that picks up front and back equally — the result reads as warmer and less harsh, especially on bright sources.
More delicate than dynamics, yes — strong blasts of air and very high SPL can damage a passive ribbon element. Use a pop filter and mind placement on loud sources.
